Indian sprinter Dutee Chand won the 100-meter race at the first Indian Grand Prix at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala with a timing of 11.51 seconds.
Dutta Chand was competing in her favorite event of 100 Metre and won in 11.51 seconds despite having to run the entire distance twice and this was her first event in a year. Post Coronavirus pandemic around 85 athletes took part in the first post-COVID track and field event Indian Grand Prix which was held at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
For 100 Metre dash performing in 11.24 seconds was Dutee’s personal best and created a national record as of now. She missed this year’s Olympic Games qualification time of 11.15 seconds but looks set to book a place in Japan in 2021.
After around 15 months Dutee participated in the race and also faced a little competition from her rivals at the NIS in the meet. She earlier won the Asian Games Silver in 100 Metre and 200 Metre and maintained her winning streak in the domestic arena. The domestic calendar was canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic last year.
In the men’s segment, Maharashtra’s Krishnakumar Rane won the 100m title in a time trial. The Maharashtra athlete clocked 10.68 seconds for the gold. Indian international Muhammed Anas was second in 10.70 seconds and the national record holder in the distance, Amiya Mallick had to be content with a bronze in 10.89 seconds.
