A full emergency was declared on Tuesday morning after a Delhi–Leh flight operated by SpiceJet experienced a technical issue in one of its engines shortly after take-off. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 carrying around 150 passengers, returned to Delhi and landed safely at approximately 6:45 am.
According to a spokesperson for the airline, the February 24 flight turned back as a precautionary measure following the technical snag. “The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” the spokesperson clarified. Further details are awaited.
In a separate incident on Sunday, a flight operated by IndiGo from Ahmedabad to Dibrugarh was diverted to Imphal after a severe dust storm drastically reduced visibility at Dibrugarh airport. The flight, carrying 144 passengers, was unable to land safely due to weather conditions that fell below minimum safety thresholds.
Flight 6E-6457, operating from Ahmedabad to Dibrugarh via Guwahati, had departed from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 10:20 am and was scheduled to arrive in Dibrugarh at 11:15 am. However, as the aircraft approached its destination, a heavy dust storm significantly hampered operations.
With visibility deemed “dangerously low,” the crew opted to divert the flight to Bir Tikendrajit International Airport as a precaution. Officials said the swift decision ensured passenger safety amid rapidly deteriorating weather conditions.
