Flood Situation In Odisha Improving; Relief & Rescue Operations Underway

With the water levels in the rivers Subarnarekha and Jalaka in the Balasore district decreasing after flowing above danger levels, the flood situation in Odisha is progressively improving. The low-lying sections of the Baliapal, Basta, and Bhograi blocks in the Balasore district were flooded by overflowing water, requiring evacuation, according to the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).

Five blocks in the Balasore district—Bhograi, Basta, Jaleswar, Balasore Sadar, and Remuna—have been damaged, affecting 35,654 people and 141 villages. There have been 11,632 evacuations. 51 free cooking centers, emergency supplies of jaggery and flattened rice, and Polythene are among the relief initiatives. Each of the two medical and veterinary teams has been sent out. The flood in the Mayurbhanj region has hit 22 blocks, affecting 2,035 people and 101 communities. A single Urban Local Body (ULB) with eleven wards, Baripada, is also impacted.

In a similar vein, five Keonjhar blocks—Patna, Champua, Saharpada, Hatadihi, and Harichandanpur—have been affected. 22 communities and 1,160 individuals have been affected. 35 dwellings with partial damage. There were 153 persons affected by the floods in Sundargarh district’s one block and one ULB, Rourkela. Those who are impacted are receiving food packets.

In Balasore, there are seven ODRAF, one NDRF, and fourteen fire emergency teams; in Mayurbhanj, there are five ODRAF and twelve fire emergency teams. One NDRF squad has also been sent to Bhadrak to conduct rescue efforts.
