Before the advent of social media the only source of news and entertainment were either the television set or the newspaper.I still feel that all the news coming through these sources were in a structured form.
Take a look at the Times of India. You will find sports news in a particular corner, the business news in a different corner and political news somewhere else. When you read the TOI everyday news are not cluttered. They are structured.
Before FB surrounded us it was meant for connecting peoples and sharing thoughts. It was not meant for news feeds but somehow it became a dumping ground for all data. When you get access to FB or Instagram you might come across the latest news but the feeds are not structured. In a data driven age we have lost touch to reading.
As far as my accounting knowledge goes accounting is the art of recording, classifying summarising and reporting business transactions. This holds true for social media as well. All the data on FB or Instagram should be recorded in the backend. It should then be classified into class of feeds whether political, sports, educational, business or entertainment.
The feeds should be titled in a very brief manner summarising the entire data.Only relevant pictures should be in the feed and not those generated by artificial intelligence. Also personal feeds should be shared seperately in a corner in FB.
Instagram reels are very attractive but addiction has become dangerous. We are hooked to it although we try our best to refrain from them.I am not suggesting that social media is not good but it needs some changes as shared above so that information is channelized appropriately.
Hope this thought brings in a change and altogether a new perspective in how we use social media in our day to day lives.
