Thousands of people who entered Indian territory through North-Eastern states and are thought to be Rohingya have been living illegally in several districts of Uttar Pradesh (UP).According to a senior police official, the procedure to identify them and determine their immigration status is currently under progress, and many more illegal immigrants are probably going to be apprehended.
On Monday, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted a thorough search to find illegal immigrants residing in the state and detained 74 Rohingya, comprising 55 men, 14 women, and 5 minors. According to Prashant Kumar, special DG, the police have cases filed against the imprisoned Rohingya in six districts in western Uttar Pradesh.An ATS representative claimed that the authorities had also learned that a Muslim cleric was giving Rohingya youngsters various forms of instruction, including courses in Urdu.
For the purpose of deporting illegal immigrants, police personnel have been instructed to provide the state government the verification report.The official recommended that construction companies in several regions, particularly the National Capital Region, where such illegal immigrants frequently operate as labourers, be required to get the workers’ identification documents before hiring them.According to Sabber Kyaa Min, director of the Rohingya Human Rights Initiative, mass detentions of Rohingyas are commonplace in India. “The majority of them had UNHRC cards verifying their refugee status.
