Under the influence of a new low pressure system, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday projected substantial rainfall activity in various states. According to IMD, a low pressure region is expected to emerge by December 5 over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the nearby south Andaman Sea. By December 7 AM, it is anticipated to travel west-northwestward and consolidate into a Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal.After that, it “is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards” and “by December 8 morning it is likely to reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts,” according to IMD.
Rain Forecast
Between December 4 and 6, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will likely have light to moderate rain, with a few isolated heavy rains. From December 7 at midnight, increased rainfall activity is predicted to start across the northern coastal regions of Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal as well as the southern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. On December 8, 2022, there will likely be isolated heavy to very heavy rain in north Tamilnadu and Puducherry as well as isolated heavy rain in south Andhra Pradesh.
Wind Warning
On December 5 and 6, the Southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to have squally winds (speed 45-55 kmph with gusts to 65 kmph), while on December 6 and 7 the Southwest and adjacent Southeast Bay of Bengal will experience these winds. On December 7 and 8, squally winds (50–60 kmph with gusts to 70 kmph) were present across the Southwest Bay of Bengal and the nearby Sri Lankan coast. Beginning on and off the coasts of Tamilnadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh, and the Gulf of Mannar on December 8 morning, squally winds of up to 40 to 50 kmph with gusts to 60 kmph are expected to increase to 50 to 60 kmph with gusts to 70 kmph throughout the next 12 hours.
