What can best describe you ?
If I were to use adjectives to define me, then it would be- sarcastic, loud, and over-the-top. Being the talkative person that I am, I’ve always loved to speak. What started out as talking a lot in my house, ended up as performing and hosting at events. Well, I love to read because it gives me the opportunity to live several lifetimes in a span of few pages. And when I am not doing either of this, I write because it gives me peace, a sense of satisfaction that I can put my thoughts into words.
What is your inspiration behind Its Podcastic ?
To be honest it was something I wanted to do long back. As I mentioned, I love speaking and writing is like a warm hug to me, so I wanted to combine both of it. I always wanted to have a platform where I could speak to several people, where I can make them double up with laughter, bawl their eyes out, smile; in short just feel the rawness of emotions. There was no particular inspiration to start “It’s Podcastic”, it was just my impatient heart which wouldn’t let me sit peacefully without starting one.
As we know podcast is a field which is still not that popular in comparison to Audio Visual Mediums. What are the steps one can take to increase their podcast reach ?
The podcast industry is still taking baby steps in our country. People think it might be boring but once they get the hang of it, there’s no looking back for sure. And to make sure that people are aware of your podcast, what can be better than social media in our time to talk about something you’re doing. Along with that I feel if you have got a budget, there are several digital advertising methods that one can try.
How do you choose a theme or plot of any podcast ?
When I started, I had a concrete theme in my mind- narrating stories. In the initial episodes of “It’s Podcastic” I narrated my self-written stories because people always love it listen stories. They have been loving it since lying on their grandmother’s lap as a baby and listening to the best narrations ever. But as I proceeded, I decided to start an interview segment as well of people who influence us in our day-to-day life. It does not have to be someone with amazing fan following but anyone who can inspire others. We live in a society today where sometimes our decisions are clouded by confusion. Hence, I feel the need to be motivated, inspired has taken up a big place in our lives today. I am just doing my tiny part in delivering some inspiration to people out there.
What other stories would you like to do in upcoming times ?
Well, I definitely started the podcast with narrating self-written stories but now I am open to submissions. I want people’s story, both fiction and real, to reach the audience. I would try to experiment a lot in the future as well. I won’t want to restrict “It’s Podcastic” to only one genre. I want this podcast to be a platform for me to be the voice that speaks not only mine but people’s stories as well.
What is the thing that keeps you motivated while making these podcasts?
I feel this is the easiest question for me to answer. The happiness, the satisfaction after an episode is released. The warm feeling that I am doing something I wanted to do long back, that too all alone with no idea what would be my next step keeps me motivated. I see people having official sponsors, an entire team dedicated for different tasks for the successful making of a podcast. But I am the only person standing in “It’s Podcastic”. From writing, to recording, to editing, I have been doing it all alone. But at the end when someone texts me after listening to the episode “Hey Bidisha, you’re so good at it”, I think that feeling, that is worth it.
Any future advice you would like to give to the youngsters who want to follow their passion in the field of Podcast.
I will say go for it. I literally had no idea what to do when I began, except for that I want to have a podcast of my own. Rest everything will fall into place once you gather that determination. It’s okay if your podcast isn’t famous. Trust me, mine isn’t. I won’t be in the top fifty, let alone top five but I will never regret that I didn’t even give this a try because I was afraid that people might not listen to it. But I went for it and am enjoying it. You will too once cross that bridge named scepticism.
