Interview Questions by Psychologist Roger Harris

Financial Independence is an important topic of discussion and who would be best to convey the message to the youth of Today, other than the Authors? The International and National Authors Panel with us has extreme knowledge, and experience and has paved their way with its work. Thus we have received the Golden Opportunity tied up with Interview Times to do an interview on the Topic “ Financial Stability for Women with Psychologist Roger Harris”.

Q1) Hi Author Prachi! This is Roger Harris, We are so glad to have you on this platform. Please do tell us more about yourself, and your author’s journey.

Ans: Thanks, Roger, for inviting me. I appreciate being here. Being an author is like creating a beautiful tapestry with words and experiences. It all began in my school days when I was just an average student. I used to feel invisible, always finding it hard to blend in. During this period, I saw how words have the amazing ability to bring about positive change. They became my haven of refuge, and I started jotting down my ideas in a journal.

Many years later, my kids hit me with a question that completely turned my life around: “Hey Mom, what do you wanna be when you’re all grown up?” I was in my late thirties, relying on financial support, and going through a period of uncertainty about who I was. That question got me fired up! I discovered that writing is my true passion, my calling.

I began my blogging journey, and my effort was acknowledged. In 2020, I achieved a major milestone by becoming a published author. My books, ‘Dear Son, You Can’t Stay Little Always’ and ‘Hey Girl, Yes You’, have had a significant impact. I’m proud to say that my book ‘Dear Son’ has been honored with awards, including the Golden Book Award in 2023.

Q2) Why do you feel becoming Financially independent is important and necessary for people?

Ans: Financial independence is the cornerstone of personal empowerment. It’s not only about earning money but also about having the power to shape your life and make your decisions.  When you’re financially independent, you have the freedom to make your choices and create the future you want.

Achieving financial independence isn’t just about amassing cash, it offers a safety net, making sure you can handle life’s challenges and pursue your interests freely.

In a world where financial security is essential, it’s not just about survival but thriving.  It’s all about having the resources to take care of your loved ones, contribute to your community, as well as stand up for what you believe in. Financial freedom is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for a fulfilling and empowered life.

Q3)This is a very serious question and we need your understanding and take on it. So by profession, I am a psychologist, in my years of career I have noticed that a lot of women who are financially well off do submit a cut of their money or often give out their entire income to their male counterparts. Why do you think this is the case?

Ans: You bring up a critical issue, Roger, and it’s deeply rooted in societal norms and expectations. Despite progress, gender roles and expectations still influence many aspects of our lives, including finances. Historically, men were often seen as the primary breadwinners, while women’s financial contributions were undervalued or overlooked.

This can lead to a sense of obligation among financially independent women to contribute or even hand over their earnings to their male counterparts. It’s essential to recognize that this behavior isn’t solely driven by financial considerations but also by societal pressures and norms.

Changing this pattern requires a shift in mindset and addressing gender equality at its core. It’s about recognizing that financial independence is not a gender-specific trait but a fundamental right. It’s about promoting financial literacy and fostering open discussions about money within relationships. Ultimately, it’s about empowering individuals, regardless of their gender, to make informed financial decisions.

Q4) Do you feel financial independence has some say in putting one’s voice forward and raising voices on issues like abuse and domestic violence?

Ans: Indeed, Roger. Financial independence is a powerful resource that can greatly empower individuals, particularly when it comes to advocating against abuse and domestic violence. Financial independence empowers individuals to prioritize their safety and well-being by providing them with the necessary resources and options to make informed decisions.

The attainment of financial independence can offer individuals the means to pursue legal assistance, avail themselves of counseling services, and establish a safe living environment. Reducing dependency on a financially abusive partner can often serve as a crucial catalyst for individuals seeking to escape a hostile relationship.

Furthermore, financially independent individuals possess a more robust basis from which to assert their interests and rights. Individuals have the opportunity to tap into various support networks, become members of organizations dedicated to combating abuse and violence, and actively contribute their voices to the cause of ending such harmful behaviors. When people achieve financial independence, they gain both the confidence and the necessary resources to effectively confront and challenge instances of injustice.

In essence, financial independence is not just about economic freedom; it’s about fostering a culture of self-empowerment and resilience, which plays a pivotal role in addressing and preventing abuse and domestic violence.

Q5) As an author what should be one quote that you want to share on Financial Independence?

Ans: One quote that encapsulates the essence of financial independence is, “The goal isn’t more money. The goal is to live life on your terms.” by American Author, Chris Brogan. This quote underscores the idea that financial independence is not a destination but a means to lead a life where you can make choices aligned with your dreams and values. It’s a reminder that true wealth is the freedom to live life on your terms.
