Hey Sushama! It’s great to have the opportunity to interview you. You have such an inspiring background as a Civil Engineer turned Career Counselor, Student Coach, and Indian English Poet. Congratulations on winning the Literary Star 2023 Award! Your passion for changing lives through your work and words is truly admirable. Let’s dive into the interview and learn more about your writing journey and your book “Brand You.”

  1. Can you tell us a bit about your book “Brand You”? What inspired you to write it?

Ans :my book “Brand You” is a short self-help book that can help millions of people who are stuck in some point of their life. They are either unable to find their true inner voice or being bogged down by halo of negativity around them.this book is a mini guide to help look into yourself with a different perspective so that you can shut your mumbling mind in break free to achieve your dream and love the person that you see in the mirror every day.

I always wanted to publish a book but was stuck like everyone .After attending  a workshop conducted by MR.Jatin Gupta (also known as Inspiring Jatin) a non-fiction writer  , I was inspired by him to write my first book BRAND YOU and thus started my journey as a writer.

  1. How would you describe your writing style? Are there any specific themes or messages you like to explore in your poems and book?

Ans : I mostly write non fiction books where the themes are based mostly on self development .I write all kinds of poems , some are narrative poems like “Trapped in the wrong body” which narrates the story of a transgender women in poetic manner , which is  published on an analogy named Eternal Echos and some short poems inspired from my surroundings some comical like “The Cry Of A Toothbrush” and some serious like “Strange Dreams” published in another analogy named INK AND EMBER.

  1. What challenges did you face while writing and publishing your works? How did you overcome them?

Ans: I started writing my first book when my daughter was just 8 months. The biggest challenge was to keep her engaged while I was writing .

The big credit of it goes to my husband , he is very supportive  and understanding . I used to write mostly at night so that there was no disturbance and if Aashu ( my daughter ) was awake my husband would keep her engaged by playing with her.

People say “behind every successful man there is a woman “ that is true but I feel behind every married successful woman is her partner who understands her dreams and ambitions and gives her wings to fly high and never be intimidated by her success. I feel blessed to have such a wonderful man in my life as my partner.

  1. As a Career Counselor and Student Coach, how do you integrate your writing into your profession? Do you find any connections between the two?

Ans: In my role as a career counselor and student coach, the integration of writing plays a multifaceted and pivotal role in helping individuals navigate their academic and professional journeys effectively. Writing serves as a powerful tool for communication, reflection, and guidance.

First and foremost, I utilize writing to craft personalized resumes, cover letters, and application essays for my clients. These documents are more than just words on paper; they are the gateways to future opportunities. Through strategic and persuasive writing, I assist students and job seekers in presenting their skills and experiences in the best light.

Incorporating writing into my profession is about empowering individuals to express themselves, communicate effectively, and embark on their professional journeys with confidence. By using the written word, I can connect with my clients on a deeper level, provide them with valuable tools and knowledge, and support their growth as they pursue their academic and career goals. ,

My profession and writing are intrinsically linked. Writing allows me to not only guide and support students effectively but also to reach a broader audience through written resources. It’s a tool that not only complements but also enhances my ability to empower and guide individuals in their academic and career journeys.

Ans :Presently i ‘ m not working on any new project . I am caught up with poetry and my work .

  1. How do you balance your various roles as a writer, career counsellor, and student coach? Any tips for maintaining a healthy work-life balance

Ans :Nothing in the world is easy. If you feel it’s easy then it means someone else is doing things for you .

Being a working – mom , writer , wife and a daughter work-life balance is ought .With each role comes a tone of responsibility . So it’s very important for me to effectively manage my time in a much productive way .Morning starts like every mom juggling with tasks. Then at 9 I am at my workspace for almost  2 to  3 hours . My work space is a room in our house which I have made my office and study where I work and study .Then by 12 noon it’s my daughter’s  sleep time. I have to  be with her till she falls asleep and after she sleeps I do my household work . Then I sit to write in the evening for half an hour or 1 hr. Then it’s completely family time.

All this wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of my family . My parents and in-laws have been my greatest support system throughout my journey.I am thankful to god that I was married to this wonderful family who is always happy for my success and a partner who is there to hold me when I fall. It is true that  your life after marriage depends on the partner you choose so you should always be careful about the  partner you choose .

For everyone who are struggling with work-life balance,  never mix your personal and professional life ,set clear priorities for work and life , have a to-do list so that you don’t miss out any important work .when you are at work be and work and when you are at home be physically and emotionally present with your family .

Ask for help whenever you have to don’t ever hesitate its impossible and stressful to handle too many tasks at the same time , for example if you have an urgent meeting and you are working from home as your parents to take care of your child till the meeting is over .

Make yourself your first priority  and never be guilty for it especially if you are a mom , because only if you are happy within yourself you will be able to make others happy .always communicate your needs and boundaries in both work and family so that you have and understanding support system in your life.

And lastly, learn to manage your time effectively and be productive  because every second in your life counts.Managing time does not mean to be packed 24/7 , take a break, have some fun  , be updated and everyday try to be a much better version of yourself  because your life changes when you change.
