Indian Troops Deliver ‘Swift, Proportionate’ Response to Fresh Ceasefire Violation by Pakistan

The Indian Army on Wednesday delivered a strong and proportionate response to fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), amid escalating tensions following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.

“During the night of April 29–30, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC in the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu & Kashmir. Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately,” the Army said in an official statement.

The renewed hostilities come in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives and left several others injured. The brutal assault has sparked nationwide outrage, prompting strong calls for retaliation.

As ceasefire violations continue, Pakistan has alleged that India is planning a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours, citing so-called “credible intelligence.” Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused India of fabricating charges about its involvement in the Pahalgam attack.

In response to the deteriorating situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting on Tuesday, during which he gave the armed forces full operational freedom to decide the mode, timing, and targets of India’s response.

India has also begun reviewing key bilateral agreements with Pakistan, including putting the Indus Waters Treaty on hold.

Earlier today, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a top-level security review with the chiefs of the three paramilitary forces and senior officials from other agencies to assess the evolving situation on the border.
