32% increase in total sugar intake registered in India

An all-time high for 2022, Indians’ overall sugar consumption increased by a record 32% between October 22 and October 27, the week of Diwali, leading to an average weight gain of 1.5 kg per user. Additionally, there was a 32% sharp fall in workouts among Indians.According to the survey, Kaju Katli and Gulab Jamun are the Indian sweets that ranked first in terms of sweet consumption throughout Diwali week on the app. Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune were the cities where people enjoyed the sweet the most.

Pune (46%) consumes the most sugar among India’s major metropolises, followed by Hyderabad (34%), Bengaluru (34%), and Chennai (34%), according to HealthifyMe (33 per cent).Additionally, sugar consumption climbed by 25% for women while it increased by 38% for men. As a result, during the holiday week, men gained an average of 1.7 kg while women gained an average of 1.28 kg.

The need for recovery has been recognised by Indians, though. In the period from October 28 to November 3, fewer people consumed 30% less sugar on average. The report also claims that as people work to lose weight, their levels of physical activity have increased by 12%.
