FEATURE: In the high-stakes world of healthcare management, where every decision can have life-altering consequences, few professionals combine operational precision with a deep understanding of patient care as effectively as Kislay Anand. Currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at CARE Hospitals, Quality CARE India Limited, he is a seasoned leader whose journey from the frontlines of patient service to the top echelons of hospital administration tells a story of perseverance, learning, and vision.
Kislay’s journey is a powerful example of how passion, grounded values, and tireless dedication can transform a career—and, more importantly, touch countless lives along the way.
Raised in Bhagalpur, Bihar, Kislay pursued his early education in Psychology and English at T.N.B. College, laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong commitment to understanding and uplifting people. His interest in human behavior and communication led him to New Delhi, where he studied Public Relations and Advertising at YMCA. Even then, there was a spark—an inner calling to do work that made a difference.
That calling found a home in healthcare.
In 1995, he took his first step into the hospital industry as a Guest Relations Officer at Apollo Hospitals. It was a humble role, but one that gave him a firsthand view of patient care—of worry in waiting rooms, of hope in hallways, of the quiet strength required to run a hospital that serves with dignity. For six years, he listened, learned, and grew.
Determined to deepen his skills, he pursued an MBA in International Business from the FORE School of Management, New Delhi. The business acumen he gained there would become a powerful complement to his frontline experience.
Over the years, Kislay climbed steadily—not by shortcuts, but by substance. At Max Healthcare, Sahyadri Hospitals, and Vaatsalya Healthcare, he took on roles that required vision, accountability, and innovation. He led hospitals, managed multiple facilities across regions, introduced new operational systems, and constantly pushed the envelope of what hospital administration could be.
Whether he was overseeing 500 beds across Karnataka or building a patient feedback system in a Nashik hospital, Kislay brought a rare combination of operational sharpness and human warmth. At Motherhood Hospital, Apollo Cradle, Sparsh Hospital, and later as Vice President at Hosmat, he strengthened institutions from within—empowering teams, improving care delivery, and ensuring that quality was never compromised.
And then came CARE Hospitals.
In May 2021, Kislay took charge as COO at CARE Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, with a clear mission: to elevate the standards of patient care while building a workplace culture rooted in trust and excellence. His leadership has been transformative—marked by disciplined operations, strong P&L performance, and a renewed focus on holistic, patient-centered care.
In February 2023, during the hospital’s sixth annual day celebration, staff, doctors, and patients alike witnessed a leader not distant from the daily grind, but deeply connected to it. Kislay is the kind of leader who knows every corner of his hospital, who speaks the language of caregivers and administrators alike, and who believes that every patient deserves not just treatment—but respect, empathy, and attention.
Despite his accomplishments, Kislay remains a student at heart. In 2023, he completed a Leadership Excellence Program at IIM Ahmedabad, reflecting his commitment to continuous growth—not just for himself, but for the entire healthcare ecosystem he serves.
What sets Kislay Anand apart is not just the positions he’s held, but the values he’s carried through them: humility, resilience, and an unshakable belief in people. His life’s work reminds us that leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about service. It’s about starting where you are, using what you have, and doing what you can, with integrity and compassion.
Today, as he leads one of Eastern India’s most respected hospitals, Kislay stands not just as an executive, but as a symbol of what’s possible when purpose guides profession.
His journey—from a front desk in Delhi to the frontlines of Indian healthcare—isn’t just inspiring. It’s a reminder that true leadership is built step by step, choice by choice, and heart by heart.
