Bengal State Craftsmanship Conclave
We needed a kick on the derriere, considering how much we wanted to automate and sell to larger audiences. When the discussions of artistry and finesse were doing the rounds, we looked at profits and options.
Now, when we look at an abundance of artistic weaves, we are left shocked yet yearn to watch artistry in motion. It’s a tough phase for those who have considered handmade artefacts as their source of livelihood. In the world of fast fashion and easy printing, those intricate details are lost!
Artistry comes with a catch:
Anything that comes with a human element and dependency is frowned upon across industries. It’s surprising to read about handmade shawls, dresses, and other elements being sidelined considering the amount of time it takes to create a masterpiece. What we tend to forget is that whatever is made by these artisans is almost a masterpiece, and there is no scope for a copy.
Choosing masterpieces over carbon copies
It would make business sense to create a masterpiece and replicate it through an automation process, but one wonders how much handmade artists can sustain with the ever-growing automation cycle.
We beg to ask ourselves if we were pushed to the brink and wanted to keep something with a great remembrance value, would artistic flair overcome automated despair?
Perhaps the answers to the artisans who have invested their lives in handmade crafts can find a solution within themselves by never letting go of their craft and passing it down to generations.
After all, soiled palms and fingers are the true representation of mesmerizing art that is loved by millions.
