No Evidence Of Bird Flu Transmission To Humans Yet

Recently the outbreak of bird flu has made a havoc situation in the country but the Central Government confirmed that there is no such infection that has been reported in humans. Even there is no such direct evidence that the Avian Influenza (AI) virus transmits to humans through the consumption of contaminated poultry products.

The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying stated that the infection in humans is not yet been reported in India. Even there is no direct evidence that AI viruses can be transmitted to humans by the consumption of contaminated poultry products.

All the management practices which consolidate the biosecurity principles like personal hygiene, and cleaning and disinfection protocols, cooking, and processing standards, are all efficient means of controlling the spread of the avian influenza virus.

After confirmation of positive samples from ICAR-NIHSAD, the avian influenza virus has been reported from Rajasthan -crow, Madhya Pradesh -crow, Himachal Pradesh -migratory birds, and Kerala -poultry duck at 12 epicenters.

Due to the above cases, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has made up a control room in New Delhi to keep an eye on the situation and to take stock daily of precautionary and control measures initiated by state authorities.

The measures recommended to the affected states to embrace the disease and limit further spread as per the Action Plan on Avian Influenza which includes establishing the biosecurity of poultry farms, disinfection of affected areas, proper disposal of dead birds or carcasses, timely collection and submission of samples for confirmation and additional surveillance, reinforcement of surveillance plan and the overall guidelines for the prevention of disease spread from affected birds to poultry and human.

Also, any unusual mortality of birds will be coordinated with the forest department is suggested to all the states. The states are also requested to keep a vigil on any unusual mortality amongst birds and to report immediately to take necessary measures.
