The Odisha government has chosen to perform a quality check on the ghee used at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri in response to the current issue regarding the purported use of animal fat in the well-known Tirupati laddoos in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities work to maintain the cleanliness of the ghee used in the temple’s “Baradi Bhoga” (special order offerings) and “Kotha Bhoga,” despite the fact that no accusations have been made about it.
Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain told the media that the action is being taken as a precaution to address any possible adulteration concerns. According to Swain, an assessment of the ghee provided by Omfed (Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation) and talks with Omfed, the Suara and Mahasuara Nijog (temple cooking communities), will take place in order to set a standard of quality.
The Shree Jagannath Temple has previously highlighted ghee standards. In an effort to lessen the possibility of impure ghee smoke harming the temple rocks, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) ordered Omfed to supply pure ghee for lighting “diyas” (lamps) within the temple grounds in 2017.
