The Odisha government has taken significant action to expand postgraduate (PG) seats at the state’s government medical institutions in an attempt to bolster the healthcare industry. According to sources, the Health and Family Welfare department has developed a proposal to add 502 more postgraduate places to the state’s twelve government medical institutions.
According to sources, the state’s government medical colleges have received a notification from the Directorate of Medical Education and Training asking them to take the required actions to expand the number of postgraduate seats. Aside from this, the medical schools have also been urged to start new postgraduate programs and provide a thorough plan outlining the financial consequences of adding more seats.
The proposal calls for the creation of 76 postgraduate seats at Government Medical College and Hospital in Phulbani, followed by 75 seats at SLN Medical College and Hospital in Koraput and 70 seats at Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital in Jajpur.
Similarly, there are plans to add 57 postgraduate seats at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, 37 at Dharani Dhar Medical College and Hospital in Keonjhar, 36 at Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital in Talcher, 35 at SRM Medical College and Hospital in Kalahandi, 29 at Government Medical College and Hospital in Sundargarh, 26 at PGIMER and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, 24 at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, 19 at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, and 18 at PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada.
