After being completed almost four years ago, the super-speciality hospital close to Sitalapalli village on the outskirts of Berhampur city is now closed. The 500-bed hospital was reportedly built by Tata Steel. Along with emergency services, the hospital was designed to contain cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical equipment. The 400 acres of land were supplied by the state of Odisha, and the hospital’s foundation stone was set in 2014 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The hospital was built in the allotted amount of time. It was initially applied to the pandemic’s Covid-19 sufferers. The hospital has stayed closed even though the pandemic eventually receded. Locals claim that because the hospital has been shut for more than four years, numerous expensive instruments have been ruined. They claim that there is a plot afoot on the part of the government to sell the hospital to a private party. They have urged that the hospital open as quickly as possible.”Previously, Covid patients were treated at the hospital. However, we have learned that the government is considering selling the medical to a private organisation and operating it commercially, which is completely unacceptable. Subash Sahu, a prominent physician, stated, “We vehemently oppose the motivation and urge people to demand the hospital’s opening as soon as possible.
South Odisha has a serious healthcare crisis. Treatment for residents of the area is mostly provided by MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. However, because advanced therapy is not available there, patients are frequently referred to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The super-speciality hospital’s opening being delayed under these conditions has made matters worse for the populace.
