SIET Dhenkanal organizes National Webinar on Debunking Fake News


Dhenkanal: The Alumni Association of Dhenkanal’s Synergy Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a National webinar on the topic “Fact, Fake and Forgery”, “Online News Consumption, Fact-Checking and Debunking False News”

The virtual event was attended by journalist and social activist Abinash Sahu, Journalist & Public Relations professional Priya Bharti, and Senior Journalist and human rights activist Pritam Kashyap as keynote speakers.

Dr. Itishree Mohanty, Principal of the Institute, delivered the welcome address at the event.
Prof. Smruti Ranjan Das, Secretary of Synergy Alumni Association, moderated the meeting.

The webinar was based on verifying the fake news sources and understanding the actual meaning of fake journalism and debunking the real and fake news with different tools like Reverse Tin Eye Image Search, Google reverse Image Search, and many more. And when it comes to the main source of fake news it was found that Facebook is the social networking site with a maximum number of fake information then comes Twitter and then Facebook-owned WhatsApp.

The speakers Priya, Pritam, and Abinash cleared all the doubts regarding the fake news and debunking tools in the question-answer session.
The digital event came to an end with the doubt clearing session and vote of thanks by Prof. S. Abinash, HOD, Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Students and faculty members of the Institute participated in the event. Keeping Covid protocols in mind all the three keynote speakers were felicitated online with mementos and a wonderful thanksgiving speech by the principal itself.
