Social activists had staged a satyagrah at Gandhi ghat demanding cancellation of the opening of Foreign Liquor(FL) shops near Swargadwar honouring the religious faith of crores of Odias.
According to the reports State convenor of Pujya pooja Sansad Krushna Chandra Jagdev along with a number of activists staged a Satyagrah at Gandhi ghat. Even the residents and devotees of this pilgrim town have also opposed the opening of five FL shops close to Swargdwar burning ghat located along the beach.
The report further added that the state excise department through lottery selected applicants against 36 FL shops and 18 country liquor shops for the district including five FL shops very close to Swargdwar last week . Puri Vikas Parishad president Jagannath Bastia in a letter to the District collector stated that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has great respect for this important religious place and he has allocated six crore rupees for its development keeping the sanctity of this place of heritage.
As per the temple Record of Rights Swargdwar stands recorded as a temple and come under the Sri Jagannath temple. People perform last rites like observing Shradha and offering Pinda of their ancestors in this Tirth.
