The Authors Journey of Saurav Santharam

In Conversation with the Author of “ My writing overflows“

Saurav Shantharam has completed his  B. A. in English, Economics and Journalism from St. Aloysius’ College(autonomous), Mangalore. He has a great genius in, and a penchant  for Literature(any language). Besides, that he is a great Tabla player and an artist.

Q1) Every author has a story from where they begun their writing journey . Tell us about the start of your journey .

Ans : It all started at a very young age. I’d a lot of interest in playing with words. Since the English language is very flexible and has a vast vocabulary. Not only English but Hindi, Sanskrit and Kannada also fascinate me.

I started by cooking up my own stuff whenever I didn’t know the answers in the exam. Then fell in love with the nuances among words, i.e., if I’ve to tell: “I trod on the butter only to trip and fall”, the words contained almost carry the same meaning, but can be separated from each other. This flexibility of language makes it aesthetic, musical, rhyming and inquisitive.

Q2) “My writing overflows “is written by you . How did you decide the plot of the book and what was your inspiration behind. Also attach the link for the purchase of the book

Ans : Yes, it’s my first book. I set about writing it gaining inspiration from the fact that the linguistic ability which  I’d found in me during my degree days was not found even in the most intelligent of my classmates. For that, my mom told me being a writer is not everyone’s cup of tea; it requires special genius which all the intellectuals won’t be endowed with.

Q3) A lot of young authors wants to have a career in writing but feel underconfident at times. What would be your advice to them ?

Ans :In English Major, we’d two schools of thought–1)Authorial Intention and 2)The author is dead. According to Hermeneutics, the authorial intention of writing his literary work will perish as and when he dies. But the work will remain for generations to come. The way we interpret the work depends entirely on our presuppositions about the world. So each time it is read or analyzed, a new meaning emerges out of it. So no matter how much ever the internet thrives, an individual’s writings must come only through him/her, not the internet!

Q4) From writing the initial draft to working on the final draft it surely requires a lot of efforts. What was the most challenging process in your writing career ?

Ans : The most challenging task for me was to measure up to the expectations of miscellaneous readers. I always follow CODER–Collect, Organize, Draft, Edit and Revise.

Q5) Is there any message you want to give to the readers?

Ans: Read all types of write-ups: formal, informal as well as academic.

Q6) Tell us something about your hobbies and why do you think hobbies are important for a person ?

Ans :I developed my hobbies out of my community’s culture. Devotional singing is the prominent element in our culture, which makes most of our community males to love the Tabla. And, I’m more of a sensitive kind of a person towards fine arts. Usually, males will be strong and adventurous, but I’m rather an art appreciator.
