The Battista hypercar, owned by Mahindra and faster than the Bugatti Chiron, has broken a previous world speed record. Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, shared the historic achievement in the auto sector on Twitter on Wednesday. Although it has only recently begun production, the Pininfarina Battista is already breaking records.
As the EV made its debut in the United Arab Emirates at the Dubai Autodrome on Monday, Pininfarina bragged about the Battista’s record. According to a press release, the hypercar’s special launch control system allowed it to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 1.79 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds faster than a Bugatti Chiron. The Battista’s performance credentials were documented and confirmed at Nard in Italy earlier this year as part of the vehicle’s international test and development programme.
The carbon fibre monocoque chassis of the car contains the battery cells in a T-shaped arrangement. Between the passenger and the driver is a central tube where the battery is installed. The battery pack contains 6960 lithium-ion cells and has a 120kWh capacity. The Battista was initially unveiled four years ago, but it wasn’t until this summer that it actually entered production. Only 150 examples of the hand-built electric hypercar from Pininfarina are expected to be produced. The report states that each car requires 1,200 hours to finish. The vehicle is already being delivered and has a starting price of $2.25 million at the current exchange rate.
