The US Capitol Police launched an “active bomb threat investigation after discovering a suspicious vehicle near the Library of Congress. Later, the entire area has been evacuated.
According to the official reports, while alerting the media on duty, the police informed that the staging area for journalists covering this situation is at Constitution and First Street, NW for safety. They requested to avoid the area around the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress is an important location that serves as an official library for the United States Congress.
The report further added that the incident comes six days after the US department of homeland security issued a terrorism threat advisory due to the heightened threat environment ahead of the September 11 terror attacks’ 20th anniversary.
Later, the United States charged a North Carolina man who claimed to have a bomb in his truck. Floyd Ray Roseberry was charged with threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to use an explosive device. U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui ordered a mental competency evaluation for Roseberry after he stated that he could not understand the proceedings against him because he had not been able to take his medications for blood pressure and his “mind.”
