UNKNOWN FACTS ABOUT TEACHER’S DAY- DR. SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN

On September 5, the nation celebrates Teacher’s Day. Since ancient times, the Guru-Shishya tradition has been regarded as fundamental. A person without education is supposedly incomplete. Obviously, since education is so vital, the teacher who gives it must also be important. The educator is in charge of shaping, enhancing, and taking care of society’s future.

HISTORY-

In 1962, when Dr. Radhakrishan became India’s second president, his students came to him to ask for permission to observe September 5 as a special day. Instead, Dr. Radhakrishnan asked them to commemorate September 5 as Teachers’ Day in order to recognize the value of teachers to the society.

WHO WAS DR. RADHAKRISHNAN –

On September 5, 1888, Radhakrishnan was born. Radhakrishna was an exceptionally bright student. His father reportedly opposed his son to learning English. The son’s father tried to encourage him to become a priest (temple priest). Radhakrishnan, however, completed his higher schooling in Tirupati and Vellore. Later, he spent the rest of his life pursuing an education. He traveled to Mysore, Kolkata, Oxford, and then Chicago to pursue a career in education. The British government bestowed the title of Sir to Radhakrishnan. This outstanding educator also received the Bharat Ratna in 1954. The Indian government declared September 5 to be National Teachers’ Day in 1962, the year Dr. Radhakrishnan was born. Since then, September 5 has been designated as Teachers’ Day.

FACTS ABOUT THE EVENT-

FACT#1. UNESCO proclaimed October 5 as International Teachers’ Day. Since 1994, people have celebrated it. It was started with the intention of encouraging teacher collaboration and raising awareness of the significance of teachers in meeting the requirements of future generations.

FACT#2. At China’s National Central University, Teachers’ Day was inaugurated in 1931. In 1932, the Chinese government gave it the go-ahead. Later in 1939, August 27 was designated as Teacher’s Day in honor of Confucius’ birthday; however, the declaration was revoked in 1951. The 10th of September was designated as Teacher’s Day in 1985. Most Chinese people now want Confucius’ birthday to be celebrated as Teachers’ Day once more.

FACT#3. In his honor, Teacher’s Day is observed on May 2 in Iran following the murder of Professor Ayatollah Morteza Motehari. The assassination of Motehari occurred on May 2, 1980.
