A new scandal has erupted around one of cricket’s top players and wealthiest players, Virat Kohli, when he published images of his trip from the West Indies to India aboard a private plane, which as usual went viral.Virat Kohli thanked the international aircraft charter company Air Charter Service and aviator Abu Patel for organising the flight in a post on Instagram, prompting the question in the minds of his followers, “Whether Virat Kohli does own a private jet?”
A quick Google search reveals a number of articles from different news sources that assert Kohli does own a private jet. This jet is allegedly Kohli’s “Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign,” which reportedly costs around INR 125 crores, and is depicted in an older post with his wife Anushka Sharma from January 2019 during the tour of Australia and New Zealand.Virat Kohli, however, STRONGLY DENIES owning any private aircraft during a photo shoot for a Puma India advertising in December 2021.
Being a strong supporter of environmental causes, Virat Kohli is the main target of people who troll him. Since 2011, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), an IPL franchise, has played one home match per season wearing green jerseys to promote a “greener and sustainable” earth. Virat Kohli is a part of the ‘Go Green’ project, which is being carried out by RCB. He has frequently advocated for lowering carbon footprints, suggesting that we celebrate a pollution-free Diwali and speaking out against public trash and littering.
Since private aircraft are notorious for leaving a large carbon imprint, utilising one for travel runs counter to everything he has said and done in the past, leading some to label him a hypocrite. According to reports, a single private jet may produce two metric tonnes of carbon dioxide in just one hour, making it significantly more polluting per passenger than commercial aircraft.
