In the days leading up to the key panchayat elections in the state, at least one person was murdered in a crude-bomb explosion in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 10. “The explosion happened in the early hours of the day in a jute field near Beldanga. Alim Sheikh, 53, was recognised as the deceased. According to a police officer, an investigation is ongoing.
The men were allegedly manufacturing homemade bombs in the field when the explosion occurred, according to the locals. They also claimed that a few people were hurt, despite the fact that the victims were never found.On June 20, the final day for candidates to file their nominations, political fighting persisted in several areas even as companies of the central forces began to arrive in the districts, including Bhangore in South 24 Parganas near Kolkata, where three people were killed.
