According to CNBC, Samsung is utilizing Chinese tech behemoth Baidu to power its Galaxy AI capabilities as part of the launch of the Galaxy S24 series in China. Google is not mentioned, despite the fact that Samsung’s Galaxy AI features in Western regions are powered by Google’s Gemini fundamental models. Rather, the Chinese launch was centered around Baidu’s chatbot, Ernie, which debuted in August of last year.
Those who followed the Chinese version of the Galaxy S24’s US launch will recognize the array of AI translation, summarization, and text formatting tools. In addition, real-time call translation is available, just as it was earlier this month, and a version of Google’s Circle to Search tool is also coming to phones.
“Now featuring Ernie’s understanding and generation capabilities, the upgraded Samsung Note Assistant can translate content and also summarize lengthy content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the click of a button,” Samsung Electronics China and Baidu said in a statement published by CNBC.
The reason for the switch is probably due to Google’s restricted presence in China. Despite the fact that Android smartphones are sold extensively throughout the nation, they do not come with the Google services and apps that are a standard feature of the operating system in other countries.According to Reuters, Baidu needed Chinese government approval before introducing Ernie.
