Authorities Seek Assistance in Tracking Down Culprits Behind 70 Bomb Threats in Just 6 Days

This week, over 70 domestic and international flights have been reported as receiving bomb threats. The Delhi Police have contacted social media platforms, including X, to gather information on accounts disseminating false bomb threats that have caused disruptions to numerous flights. The investigation was intensified on Saturday following the filing of an FIR related to a bomb threat against an Akasa Air flight headed to Bengaluru with 180 passengers on board. Authorities are also looking into several other similar incidents reported at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport this month.

A specialized team has been assembled to investigate the bomb threat cases, with the Delhi Police’s cyber cell and the Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) joining the effort. Authorities believe the perpetrator may have utilized a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or a dark web browser to create multiple accounts for posting threatening messages.

The police have requested social media platforms to suspend the accounts that posted threatening messages and remove the related content.”A police officer informed the news agency PTI that it is suspected the individual used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or a dark web browser to create accounts on X and then posted messages from multiple accounts.”
