The Odisha Cabinet authorized a new initiative on Friday to build block-level stadiums in each of the state’s 314 blocks, marking a big step toward improving grassroots sports infrastructure. The government’s commitment to building a strong sports environment and encouraging health and wellbeing throughout the state is demonstrated by this ground-breaking project.
According to a press release, the initiative intends to fill important gaps in rural sports infrastructure, especially at the block level, where facilities are still in need of improvement. The state’s goal of rapid sports expansion has long been hampered by these inequities. The government has set forth a number of important goals in recognition of the need to close this gap, such as giving athletes more chances, developing local talent, and hosting more grassroots sporting events. The emphasis would be on fundamental sports in which Odisha has a lot of potential.
These facilities will assist the long-term mental and physical health of rural adolescents by encouraging them to engage in physical activities, in addition to promoting competitive sports. Odisha is dedicated to fostering a thriving sports culture and is acknowledged as one of India’s emerging sports hubs. Block-level stadium building is a major step in the direction of realizing this goal. By offering cutting-edge facilities at the local level, the initiative will encourage people to take up sports as a way of life in addition to acting as a pipeline for developing high-performance athletes.
The football/cricket field, clay athletic track with throw and jump area, volleyball/kho kho/kabaddi courts, indoor badminton, table tennis, etc. halls, and common facilities center are all features of each Block Level Stadium, which will be built on 8–10 acres of land. Phased development of the block level stadiums will cost Rs 4,124 crore over five years, as approved by the Cabinet.
