A dramatic incident unfolded on Wednesday during the weekly Jan Sunvai at Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta’s residence in Civil Lines, where she was allegedly slapped by a man attending the public hearing.
According to officials, the man, believed to be in his 30s, approached the CM with a piece of paper, began shouting expletives, and then slapped her. Security personnel immediately overpowered him and handed him over to the police. The accused has been detained at Civil Lines Police Station. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
A witness at the event told ANI, “The person was speaking and suddenly slapped her. This is very wrong. Police took him away immediately.”
Confirming the incident, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, “The attacker handed over a paper to the CM, started hurling abuses, and physically assaulted her by pulling her hair. His words suggest he had criminal intent and political leanings. Police inquiry will reveal more.”
Delhi BJP president Virendraa Sachdeva strongly condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the dignity of the chief minister. “We demand a thorough police investigation to bring out the truth,” he said.
The Jan Sunvai initiative is designed to give citizens direct access to the CM to raise their grievances.
