Odisha Govt Rolls Out One-Time Settlement Scheme For Pending E-Challans

For those who have outstanding e-challans under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Odisha government has launched a One-Time Settlement (OTS) program. This program seeks to effectively collect unpaid penalties and promote adherence to traffic safety laws.

Violators can pay a smaller sum to settle their penalties under the program, which will be applied to e-challans that are still outstanding at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) level as of July 31, 2025. Those who use the system can avoid paying the full fine amount stipulated under the Motor Vehicles Act, although this is a limited-time chance.

The OTS scheme’s main goals are to increase road safety and persuade individuals to change their driving behaviors. After the notification is issued, the plan will remain in place for six months. The resolution of matters that have already been brought to court will be supervised by a committee led by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Law Department.

The Motor Vehicles Act’s restrictions will be rigorously enforced by the Transport Department, which will target repeat offenders and those who are reluctant to change their driving behavior. It is anticipated that this program would improve road safety in Odisha and lower the number of outstanding challans.
