The central government has informed the Supreme Court that “it’s impossible to give more help to different sectors” in the midst of the novel Covid pandemic, focusing on that “courts ought not meddle in financial affairs”.
In its most recent affirmation, the administration has stated: ” Policy making is the space of the legislature and court ought not go into area explicit monetary aid . Any further help, other than waiving of compound interest for loans up to Rs 2 crore, is detrimental to the national economy and banking sector.”
A week ago, the administration told the top court that it was prepared to forgo intrest on the reimbursement of credits of up to Rs 2 crore, frozen by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in a six-month ban allowed as a result of the Covid pandemic.
On Monday, notwithstanding, the top court said the government’s statement on deferring “interest on interest” on loans was not good and requested a do-over in seven days.
While hearing petitions on a waiver of interest on conceded EMIs – or interest on intrigue – to help small borrowers during the Covid pandemic, the top court said the central government’s oath “neglects to manage a few issues raised by applicants”.
