India’s largest Hockey stadium will be hosting the Men’s Hockey Cup 2023 at Rourkela to be finished and ready in a year.
Suresh Chandra Mohapatra the Chief Secretary announced that the world-class hockey stadium will be ready within a year. The stadium will establish on the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) campus. Recently Mohapatra visited the proposed stadium site on the BPUT campus and stated that after the Men’s Hockey Cup then the stadium will later be used by the Sports Department of Hockey.
Mohapatra further stated that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has instructed us to visit the site to expedite the ongoing work as the largest hockey stadium will host the world cup in 2023. Considering the cradle of hockey Sundargarh district would get much-needed global exposure through the showpiece event.

When CM Patnaik announced the set up of a world-class and India’s largest hockey stadium at Rourkela to host the Men’s Hockey World Cup, the high-level government team immediately visited the proposed stadium site which was accompanied by the chairman of Western Odisha Development Council Asit Tripathy, 5T Secretary V Karthikeyan Pandian, Works Secretary Krishan Kumar and Special Secretary to Sports R Vineel Krishna, Mohapatra.
Chief Secretary Mohapatra also discussed the structure of the stadium to the team along with the provision for parking space, entry and exit points as well as accommodation for players. The whole detailed plan and the entire structure of the stadium will be approved and later the construction work is estimated to start from April. Around 15 Acre of land out of the total 150 acres, one corner of the campus will be used for the stadium. For further development new professors and teachers will be hired along with the introduction of new technical courses and skill development activities.
