Twitter gave access to third party academic researchers of free access to the full history of public conversation via the full-archive search endpoint. This system was beforehand limited to a paid premium or enterprise of some customer.
In 2006 Twitter API was first introduced, and then the academic researchers have used data from the public conversation so that they are able to study topics as to several as the conversation on Twitter.
This Twitter API includes state-supported efforts to interrupt the public conversation to floods and climate change, from attitudes and perceptions about COVID-19 to efforts to promote healthy conversation in an online platform.
As per Twitter official blog post, it was stated that the academic researchers are one of the most comprehensive groups of people who are using Twitter API. And with this new Twitter API’s Academic Research product track, qualified researchers will have access to all the data released to date.
As per reports a higher level of access to the Twitter developer platform will be given for free, including a significantly higher monthly Tweet volume cap of 10 million (20 times higher than what’s available on the Standard product track today).
This new initiative will make sure those more precise filtering capabilities across all v2 endpoints limit data collection to what is relevant for your study and minimise data cleaning requirements.
According to Dr Sarah Shugars who is an Assistant Professor at New York University said that the Academic Research product track gives researchers a window into understanding the use of Twitter and social media at large, and is an important step by Twitter to support the scientific community Twitter earlier informed that the company will introduce a specialised Business product track and additional levels of access within its Academic Research, Standard, and Business product tracks in the coming months.
