Britain’s Jack Draper delivered a dominant performance to defeat Denmark’s Holger Rune 6-2, 6-2 and secure his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells on Sunday. The 23-year-old’s victory marks the biggest triumph of his career, making him the first Briton to win the title since Cameron Norrie in 2021. With this win, Draper is set to break into the world’s top 10 for the first time, following his U.S. Open semi-final run last year.
Despite struggling with a persistent hip issue this season, Draper showed no signs of discomfort as he moved effortlessly across the court, unleashing 21 winners in a commanding display. Rune, playing in his fourth Masters 1000 final, failed to find his rhythm, managing just seven winners against 18 unforced errors.
Draper set the tone early, breaking Rune’s serve in the opening game and continuing to apply relentless pressure. He fired seven aces in the first set and showcased his versatility with sharp net play. Reflecting on his journey, Draper said, “I lost in the first round here last year, so I didn’t get to experience the tournament much. This is definitely one of my favorites now.”
