The Hindu god Vishwakarma, also known as the divine architect, is worshipped during Vishwakarma Jayanti. He is revered as the world’s creator and “swayambhu”. He built the palace of Indraprastha for the Pandavas, the holy city of Dwarka where Krishna reigned, and many magnificent weapons for the gods. He is credited with creating Sthapatya Veda, the science of mechanics and architecture, and is also known as the divine carpenter. He is mentioned in the Rig Veda.
Puja Date and Tithi
It occurs on the Hindu calendar’s “Kanya Sankranti.” It is typically observed every year on the last day of the Indian Bhado month, which falls between September 16 and September 18 on the Gregorian calendar. Nepal also observes the festival. Vishwakarma Puja is well-known in West Bengal’s industrial area of Haldia.
Places of Worship
The festival is mostly observed in industrial settings, frequently on the shop floor. The engineering and architectural community, as well as artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory workers, and others, observe the day of worship as a sign of respect. They ask God for a brighter future, secure working conditions, and success in their respective fields above all else. Additionally, workers pray for the efficient operation of various machines.
