Entire bus stop stolen in Bengaluru

A freshly erected bus shelter in Bengaluru, complete with its pricey steel structure worth Rs. 10 lakh, unexpectedly disappeared just one week after it was put in place. This particular bus shelter was located on Cunningham Road in the city and was managed and maintained by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

N Ravi Reddy, an associate vice-president of the business in charge of building the BMTC bus shelters in Bengaluru, filed a theft case as a result of the occurrence. Surprisingly, the missing bus shelter was not reported to the authorities until Mr. Reddy complained on September 30, nearly a month after it vanished. This inexplicable disappearance occurred not far from the police commissioner’s office, which is roughly a kilometre from Vidhana Soudha, the city’s legislative structure. The police have launched an inquiry to solve the mystery, carefully reviewing neighbouring CCTV material in search of probable culprits.

The sequence of events is confusing because the bus stand was stolen on August 28 after being stolen on August 21. The fact that it took authorities a month to discover the crime highlights the audacity and cunning of the offenders. This strange bus shelter theft story is not an uncommon occurrence in Bengaluru. A three-decade-old bus stop at HRBR Layout mysteriously disappeared in March. Local accounts state that the Lions Club donated this bus stop in Kalyan Nagar in 1990; nevertheless, it was demolished overnight to make room for a business.
