The government of Odisha has promised that the state has enough fertilizer supplies to satisfy farmers’ needs throughout the current Kharif 2025 growing season. The state had created a Kharif crop plan that covered 58.50 lakh hectares, and 10 lakh MT of fertilizers were requested from the Center for this purpose, according to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment. In response, the Indian government allotted 9.55 lakh MT of various fertilizer grades for the season.
In addition to the 2.94 lakh MT of pre-positioned stock, the state has already received 8.56 lakh MT by September 7, increasing the total availability to 11.50 lakh MT. 2.04 lakh MT remain in stock across districts after 9.42 lakh MT were sold to farmers. Other shipments are also in route, including 2,734 MT of MOP and 19,470 MT of urea. According to officials, the government is working closely with cooperative societies, MARKFED, and manufacturers to guarantee that fertilizers are distributed to PACS, LAMPCS, and retail dealers in a seamless manner. Notably, sales of fertilizer this season have already topped those of the previous year, when 8.02 lakh MT were sold in the same time frame.
Enforcement teams made up of representatives from the revenue, agricultural, and police departments have increased inspections around the state to stop the illegal marketing, stockpiling, and sale of counterfeit fertilizers. 5,298 retail locations have been inspected thus far, and 1,479 merchants have received show-cause warnings, 33 have received stop-sale orders, and 77 have had their dealer licenses revoked or suspended for infractions. Additionally, nine dealers had their stocks confiscated.
The IFFCO was told not to link nano fertilizers to other products, and the government reaffirmed that farmers are allowed to select the grades of fertilizer. “We are making sure that high-quality fertilizers are available on time and at the appropriate cost,” a senior official said.
