UP thieves dig tunnel under SBI Bank and steal Gold

According to police, burglars got into a bank’s safe deposit box in Uttar Pradesh and made off with 10 million rupees worth of gold after crawling through a 10-foot tunnel into the safe. They claimed to have excavated the tunnel, which was around four feet wide and situated next to the Bhanuti branch of the State Bank of India, from a vacant site nearby. Despite being able to pry open the cash box containing 32 lakh, the robbers were unable to pry open the gold chest, according to police officer Vijay Dhull.

To open the locker containing the gold that had been pledged to the bank by 29 people against loans, they utilised a gas cutter. The one CCTV camera in the safe was turned around by the intruders, who also turned off the alarm system.
When other employees went into the safe to get some cash at 11 a.m., they found the locker shattered. Police Commissioner BP Jogdand of Kanpur arrived at the branch, which was founded in 1969. Such a tunnel could have taken days to build. We believe an insider provided the robbers with crucial information that allowed them to attack so precisely. He said, “Several teams have been formed to solve this issue, and the CCTV material is currently being studied.

Senior police officers, forensic specialists, and a dog squad arrived at the bank and immediately started an investigation. According to Mr. Jogdand, several police teams led by senior officers have been organised. In this incident, a case has been filed under Section 379 (stealing) of the Indian Penal Code. In a similar incident, robbers dug a 60-meter tunnel to access the SBI branch in Govind Nagar in Kanpur in 1997.
